How to File a Phone Insurance Claim While on Vacation in Orlando

Phone cracked on vacation? Before you panic about the cost, let's walk through your options — insurance claims, AppleCare+, carrier protection plans, and when independent repair is the faster, better choice.

Option 1: AppleCare+ (iPhone)

If you have AppleCare+, you're covered for 2 accidental damage incidents per year with a service fee ($29 for screen-only damage, $99 for other damage). Here's the process for tourists:

• Open the Settings app → [Your Name] → iPhone → Coverage to check if you have AppleCare+
• Contact Apple Support via the Support app or apple.com/support
• Apple may offer Express Replacement Service (they ship a device, you return yours) or direct to the nearest Apple Store
• Nearest Apple Stores to Orlando: Mall at Millenia, Orlando area, and Disney Springs location
• Downside for tourists: Apple Store appointments book up and may not have same-day availability. Express Replacement may not be practical during a short vacation.

Option 2: Carrier Protection Plans (Asurion, etc.)

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and others sell device protection plans often backed by Asurion. If you have one:

• File a claim through your carrier's app or website
• Deductible is typically $99–$249 depending on device model
• Replacement device shipped to your hotel (usually next-day)
• Downside for tourists: You have to wait for the replacement to arrive, and it may arrive the day you're leaving. Also, you'll receive a refurbished replacement, not your original device.

Option 3: Independent Repair (Often the Best Vacation Option)

For screen-only damage, independent repair from RAD Wireless Repair is often the fastest and most practical option for tourists:

• Same-day, on-site service — we come to your hotel
• Repair completed in 30–60 minutes
• Your original device, not a replacement
• Price is often similar to or less than insurance deductibles for screen damage

For screen-only damage, many tourists find it faster and simpler to just have us repair it directly rather than navigate an insurance claim during a vacation.

When to Use Insurance vs. Independent Repair

• Use insurance: Total loss (screen + motherboard damage), major water damage with multiple component failure, theft or loss
